From January 14 to 19 the “16th Panama Jazz Festival” will be held in homage to “Alex Blake and family”. In this edition and as tradition it will be doing different activities that include: clinics, auditions, symposia, live art, workshops, concerts, jam sessions and global stage. It will be a musical and cultural party that will have the presence not only of the honoree, but of talented artists of national and international stature.
The Festival will be staged with the presence of the Blake family with Alex Jr. and Russel Blake and his band Sons of Panama, the Canadian saxophonist with his Cuban group Jane Bunnett & Maqueque, the American trombonist Andrew Hayward, the Swedish trombonist Gunhild Carlin, the guitarist Israeli Rotem Shivan, the Colombian singer Lucía Pulido and her group Corazonantes, and the debut of Danilo Pérez’s Global Messengers in a new project of artists from Palestine, Greece, Jordan, United States and Panama.
The national musicians that stand out in this edition include the group of Roberto Delgado & Orchestra, Aphrodisiac, Idania Downman & The Emotions, Omar Díaz and his group Dedé, Luz Acosta Ensamble, The Blues Dogs, Santos Diablos, Calabar, Jose Luis Medina, Quinteto de Rey Cruz Salsa, Panama Jazz All Stars, the Panamanian Shuruka Folklore Group, and the Danilo Pérez Foundation Assemblies.
In addition, we will have the participation of prestigious educational institutions such as the Berklee Global Jazz Institute, the New England Conservatory and the New York Jazz Academy, which each year offer great support to the Festival and together with the invited artists will offer some 80 educational workshops.
